A life given to service

Behind every meal we share is a simple conviction, quietly lived for many years: that to feed another being is one of the truest forms of love.

Founder

Raised in a tradition where the kitchen was never closed to a hungry stranger, our founder learned early that spirituality and service are inseparable. Yoga, in its truest sense, was never only about the body on a mat — it was about union with all life, and the responsibility that comes with feeling that connection.

That understanding became a way of living. A shared plate here, a bowl of food for a shivering animal there, a helping hand for a family in crisis — small acts, repeated faithfully, until they grew into Yogic Health & Food Bank Canada. What began in one Toronto kitchen is now a community bound by compassion.

When I look into the eyes of a hungry child, or a stray dog at the gate on a winter night, I do not see a stranger. I see myself, and I see the divine. To place food in their hands or their bowl is not charity — it is worship. This is why we serve: not to be thanked, but because love, once it is real, cannot sit still while another being goes hungry. Feed everyone. Waste nothing. Judge no one. That is the whole of it.

The Philosophy

Where the yoga meets the meal

Three ancient principles shape everything we do — not as theory, but as daily, hands-on practice.

Yogic Living

True yoga means union — of body and breath, of self and world. We carry that balance off the mat and into the streets, treating simple, mindful nourishment as a spiritual practice available to everyone we serve.

Seva — Selfless Service

Seva is service offered with no thought of reward. It is the beating heart of our work: we give because giving is its own purpose, and in serving others we quietly serve the best in ourselves.

Ahimsa — Compassion to All

Ahimsa is non-harm extended to every living thing. It is why our compassion reaches beyond the human — why the cat, the dog and the bird are fed at our table too. Kindness, to be real, must exclude no one.

The Vision Ahead
